20 Percent Engineering Seats for Polytechnic Diploma (ECET) Students!

Here is good news for ECET 2011 candidates. AICTE has suggested to all the state governments to increase the allocation of seats in professional courses for Engineering Diploma Holders, D. Pharmacy and B.Sc. Mathematics candidates. The AICTE has suggested adding 10 percent more seats to the existing 10 percent seats in Engineering and Pharmacy Colleges for ECET / Polytechnic qualified candidates. These suggestions will benefit large number of Polytechnic Students aspiring to pursue BE/ B.Tech Courses in Engineering and Pharmacy Colleges under Government, Aided and Private Categories.

At present there are 2.03 lacs Engineering and Pharmacy seats are available in Engineering and Pharmacy Colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Out of these, about 20000 seats (10 percent) will be reserved for ECET candidates. This number will be doubled if AICTE suggestions were put into implementation.

AICTE has also made another important suggestion according to which B.Sc. Maths students should be considered for the left over seats only after the completion of admissions for Polytechnic students. AICTE also indicated that all the candidates should secure minimum 50 percent marks in qualifying examinations, i.e., Polytechnic Diploma, D. Pharmacy and B.Sc. Mathematics to be eligible to appear for the Entrance exam. Reserved candidates need 45 percent marks in qualifying exams. The Government of Andhra Pradesh did not take any decision yet on these proposals. It is most likely that the Govt. would prefer existing formalities and the same would be intimated to AICTE.
