Urdu Courses in University of Hyderabad

The Department of Urdu of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) offer M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes in Urdu. The department focus on teaching and research in Urdu apart from special emphasis on studies in classical and modern literature and Deccani research, importantly editing of Deccani Manuscripts. The department has computer facilities with modern software for the use of research scholars. The department of Urdu conducts entrance examinations for admission to all the programmes. Following are details of M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D. courses, eligibility, entrance exam structure and application procedure:

1) M.A. Urdu: Duration of this course is two years. The programme designed to give basic knowledge of Urdu literature along with introduction of other disciplines in Humanities and Social Sciences which are relevant to Urdu literature. The main courses in the programme are translation theory and practice, Writing methods for audio visual media, and core compulsory courses in Computer and Urdu Software practices. There will be paper on an Introduction to Urdu Journalism. There will be two parts in Entrance Examination. Part -A deals with Objective type multiple choice questions for 25 marks and Part - B contains essay type questions. Part ‘B’ of M.A. entrance examination will consist of two questions of essay type for 50 marks and another question for 25 marks.

2) M.Phil. in Urdu: The mina aim of the programme is to prepare the candidates for full fledged doctoral research. There will be a course in Research Methodology. Candidates have to submit a dissertation under the supervision of a guide. Part - A of the entrance exam consists of 25 objective type questions. Part ‘B’ of the M.Phil. entrance examination will consist of two essay type questions for 30 marks and short questions on Urdu language and literature for 20 marks.

3) Ph.D. in Urdu: This is a ful time doctoral research programme. There will be a course work to familiarize the candidates with research methodologies. The candidates have to work on the topics approved by the Departmental Committee. Important areas of research are inter-disciplinary topics and comparative literature. Candidates have to submit a brief of their research proposal along with application. Part-B of the Ph.D. Entrance test will consist of two essay type questions for 30 marks and short questions on Urdu language and literature for 20 marks. Those qualified in Entrance Tests of M.Phil. and Ph.D. will have to appear for oral test for 25 marks.

University of Hyderabad announced admission notification during the last week of March or first week of April every year. Candidates can download applications from the University website at www.uohyd.info OR www.uohyd.ernet.in. Model and previous entrance exams papers will be available at the University library located in the campus. The class work Usualy begins in June - July every year. The University provides hostel facility for girls and boys separately.
