Number of Seats in IITs - Branch wise seats in IITs

IITs are the best institutes for Engineering courses in India. There has been huge demand for admissions into IITs Thanks to their excellent academic environment and placement record. Hence the training for IIT JEE has been highly corporatised. The number of seats have been increased as the new IITs have joined to the old ones. Before 2008, there are 7 IITs in the country. In 2008 Govt. of India has started 6 New IITs in various states. There are proposls for two more IITs to be established in 2009 and they were also started functioning in temporary campuses recently.

Following are the total number of seats available in various IITs...
Traditional (Old) IITs:

IIT Bombay, Maharastra: 746 seats
IIT Delhi: 721 seats
IIT Guwahati, Assam: 498 seats
IIT Kanpur, UP: 702 seats
IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal: 1138 seats
IIT Madras, Tamilnadu: 713 seats
IIT Roorkee:1013 seats

Total seats in newly Opened IITs in 2008 (120 seats each):

IIT Bhubaneshwar, Orissa: 120 seats
IIT Gandhinagar, Gujarat: 120 seats
IIT Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh: 120 seats
IIT Patna, Bihar: 120 seats
IIT Ropar, Punjab: 120 seats
IIT Rajasthan, Rajasthan: 120 seats

Seats in new IITs opened in 2009 (120 seats each):

IIT Indore: 120 seats
IIT Mandi: 120 seats

Branch wise break up of seats in IITs have not been categorised. As there is proposal from IITs to go for Online Counseling this year onwards, details of Branch wise seats may be provided in Counseling time. These numbers of seats may subject to change based on the increase or decrease of seats in any year. Candidates are requested to visit official and individual websites of IITs for exact number of seats for the admission year.
