SSC Maths Important Questions for AP and Telangana - Sets Chapter
The new examination and evaluation pattern gives greater scope for
open ended questions i.e., you have greater chances to express your
opinions, give your logical arguments in your own way. As you already
know that questions from other than text book exercises can be given
in the Public Examination, you need to know the concepts clearly.
T he questions will be based on the concepts you have learnt from your
text book. Instead of asking the conceptual questions directly, your
comprehension about the concepts will be assessed by asking
application based questions. Your mathematical skills will be assessed
under five competencies.
1) Problem solving
2) Reasoning and proof
3) Communication
4) Connections
5) Visualization and Representation
Let's see how the questions can be asked from the concepts you learnt
from the chapter 'sets'.
Note:
1) Two short type questions can be combined for an essay type question.
2) These questions are intended to provide clarity regarding the way of ask-
ing questions as the students are getting panic that the questions are not
given from the text book.
Some Important Questions:
Q: If A = {x / x is a letter of the word 'integers'},
B = {x / x is a letter of the word 'tigers'},
C = {x / x is a letter of the word 'trees'}. Draw the venn diagram to
represent the relation among the sets A, B and C. How do you interpret
the diagram?
Hint: Write the sets A, B and C in roster form then try to relate
whether the sets are disjoint, subsets or related in any other way.
Solution:
A = {i, n, t, e, g, r, s}
B = {t, i, g, e, r, s}
C = {t, r, e, s}
Q: If A = {x / x is a multiple of 3 less than 30}, B = {x / x is a
factor of 30}. Find the number of elements in i) A U B ii) A ∩ B.
Hint: This is a simple question. List out the elements of the set A
and set B. Find
i) A U B and write its cardinal number.
ii) Find A ∩ B and write its cardinal number.
Solution: A = {3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27}
