IGNOU–UNESCO Science Olympiad 2011– Eligibility and Test Pattern

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in association with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is organizing the Science Olympiad 2011. Students from all South Asian (SAARC) countries can apply for this Olympiad. The program is intended to identify the talented students across the region to promote and motivate science education and research. Qualified candidates will get certifications, incentives and awards from reputed institutions. You can get details from the official website http://scienceolympiad.ignou.ac.in . Following are details of eligibility, exam nature, test pattern and application procedure:

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants for the IGNOU – UNESCO Science Olympiad should be studying Intermediate first year / 10+1 . They should have studied Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology in 10th Class / SSC.

Nature and Pattern of the Test: The IGNOU - UNESCO Science Olympiad will be two phase / tier test.

1. Tier I: This is an objective type test with questions from all the four subjects. Equal weightage will be given to all the subjects. All the eligible participants will be called for this tier examination. Duration of the tier I test is 3 hours. There will be negative marking for the selection of wrong answers.

2. Tier II Test: 40 participants from the Tier 1 test will be short listed for tier II test. This test will be organized at IGNOU, New Delhi only. The test will mainly focus on the problem solving capabilities of the candidates. Questions will be in high standard and each question may take about 5-10 minutes to answer. Equal weightage will be accorded for all four subjects i.e., Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Duration of the test is 3 hours.
