Telugu and English Compulsory Subjects in AP Schools 2013

In a prompt move to give more importance to Telugu Language in education, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has made it mandatory to study Telugu subject from Class 1 to 10th Class / SSC. The Government has issued orders on 28th January 2013 in this regard. The rule may be implemented from 2013-14 academic year.

Along with Telugu, the Government also made it compulsory to study English as a subject from 1st class and 10th class in the state. The Government has approved the guidelines framed by the Department of Education to this effect.

The guidelines are applicable for all the Government, aided and unaided private schools functioning in the state. About 1.29 crore students will come under the purview of this guidelines.

Presently, the teaching is carried out in Telugu Medium from class 1 to class 10 in Telugu Medium schools. Telugu is being studied as an optional subject from Class 6th and 10th Class. With the changed guidelines, all the students have to study Telugu till 10th Class.
