New Campus of NTR Health University at Mangalagiri, Guntur District

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has approved the proposal to establish an Academic Campus of the prestigious NTR University of Health Science at Managalagiri, Guntur District. The NTRUHS has its main campus at Vijayawada and it is the first Health University in India. It is decided that the present administrative and academic set up of the University will continue in Vijayawada. The proposed new campus in 75 acres of land will be used for additional research and professional development of the medical education in the state. The campus is likely to b built with collective funding from UGC, Science and Technology and Biotechnology Department of the Government of India. The Chief Minister also endorsed 76 extra posts in the Health University.

The proposed land is located at Mangalagiri (Guntur District) where T.B. Sanitorium is placed and it will be allotted to NTR University of Health Sciences for establishing an Academic and Research Development Campus. The new campus will integrate research and professional activities for the medical students and faculty. The government is also seriously considering establishment of a Regional Centre of Health University at Hyderabad. In the second phase of expansion, Kadapa will be considered for another Regional Centre for NTR University of Health Sciences.

It has to be noted in this context that Sri Krishna Committee has suggested setting up Medical and Health University in Telangana Region, particularly in North Telangana.
