NRI Quota in MBBS Admissions in Andhra Pradesh 2013

In a big move towards commercialization of medical education, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to allow NRI quota in MBBS admission from the academic year 2013-14. The Government has approved that 15 percent of seats within management quota seats in MBBS and MBS courses can be reserved for NRIs.

At present, 40 percent seats are reserved for Managements of the colleges and 60 percent are for convener quota to be filled based on the EAMCET medical ranks.

NRI quota is being implemented in Engineering admissions for a long time. These seats are being converted as management quota by managements of the colleges if they did not find NRI candidates.

The present 40 percent quota is divided into:
1. NRI Quota: 15 percent seats. The Government has to finalise fee details for these seats.

2. Management Quota: 25 percent seats. The Government has framed certain guidelines to fill these seats. Colleges should advertise, invite applications and consider merit and maintain transparency in admissions.
