10th Class English - Wit and Humour - Project, Slip Test and Passage Questions

Project Work: I. Collect a humorous story from any story books and
analyse how the writer created humour in it. Write in your own words.
II. Write a short paragraph about affectionate relations take place in
your family particularly between children and parents.

Slip Test:

I. Arrange the following sentences in sequence so that a continuous
narrative of the story of 'The Dear Departed' could be made.
1. Victoria was sent to Abel Merryweather's room to bring the key
bunch of the bureau.
2. One day Mrs. Slater felt that Abel Merryweather had died.
3. Before the arrival of the Jordans, the Slaters had pinched Abel's
bureau and clock.
4. The Slaters and the Jordans wanted to ascertain if Abel
Merryweather had paid his insurance premium.
5. The Slaters sent a telegram to the Jordan's about the death of Abel
Merryweather.

II. Read the following passage and answer the following questions.

The frightened soldiers fled. Their king was left by himself in his
tent. Hurriedly he wrote a letter bagging for peace and apologizing
for attacking the country. He left this letter in the tent. Then he
jumped on his horse and followed his soldiers. When the Potter's black
horse reached the deserted camp it stopped. With shaking hands the
potter untied his feet and fell to the ground. When he looked around
he was surprised to find the camp empty.

Questions:

1) Why were the soldiers frightened?
2) Where did the galloping horse stop?
3) Write the noun form at the word 'apologizing'?
4) Why was the Potter puzzled?
5) What happened to the potter finally?
