AP to get new IIT, AIIMS and Agricultural University in 2014-15

The Union Government of India has decided to establish a new IIT, AIIMS and an Agricultural University, as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. The modalities of location, academic year and allocations have to be framed by the Central Government. The Government of India has announced these in its Annual Budget 2014-15.

The Govt. of India has allocated Rs. 500 crore for the establishment of AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh. The premier institute will offer medical courses such as MBBS, BDS and research programmes in various disciplines of medicine and health. It will be a hospital cum educational institute in the lines of AIIMS at New Delhi.

The new IIT and Agricultural University will cater the needs of students of Andhra Pradesh who like to pursue respective courses. Admissions into IIT will be as per the guidelines of MHRD and through JEE Advanced examinations. The Agricultural University may offer education, training and research activities in Agriculture, Veterinary and related fields.

The new educational institutions will start functioning from the academic year 2015-16. The Government will arrange temporary arrangements to start the classes and will construct building and provide other facilities in an incremental manner.
