10th Class English Imp 2 Marks Questions from New Syllabus

Following are important questions and answers from 10th Class / SSC English (new textbook and syllabus) useful for AP students in Paper 1 - Part -A. The questions are for 2 marks and from lessons Attitude is Altitude and Every Success Story Is a Story of Great Failures.

Lesson: Attitude is Altitude

How is this statement substantiated by Nick?
A: As a disabled man, Nick failed to do things successfully like other able people.
Whenever Nick fails, he tries again and again until he succeeds. When Nick was learning how to surf, he was terrified at first but later he did very well.

Q: What was the inspiration taken by Nick when he read a newspaper article?
A: When Nick was 13, he happened to read a newspaper article about a disabled man who had managed to achieve great things and help others. Getting courage from this, Nick realised that his life was to give hope to others and decided to use his life to encourage other people and give them the courage that the article had given him.

Q: How did Nick and Kanae become close friends?
A: Kanae Miyahara attended to a meeting in 2008 where Nick was the guest speaker in Texas. At that time she was attracted to Nick's message. From that time they were in
touch with each other to share their ideas on giving hope to the needy and they became
close friends.

Lesson: Every Success Story Is a Story of Great Failures

Q: 'To Lincoln, defeat was a detour and not a dead end'. Justify this statement from the life of Lincoln.
A: Abraham Lincoln failed in business, in politics and in many things in life. Finally he got the biggest success and became the President of the United States of America
with firm determination. Thus he proved that defeat was a detour and not a dead end.

Q: What did Socrates suggest as the secret to success? Do you agree or disagree with
him? Give reasons for your answer.
A: Socrates suggested that the burning desire is the only secret to success. I agree with this idea. If we do not have a strong passion for something, we cannot achieve it because the burning desire gives the perfect and adequate motivation to achieve something.

Q: What happened when Thomas Edison was at school?
A: When he was at school at the age of four, his teacher felt that Tommy was not able to learn things. He asked Tommy's mother to take her son out of school.
